Adoption
GPA-MoKan is first and foremost dedicated to moving
Kansas and Missouri retired racing greyhounds into adoption. Greyhounds placed through our program usually are
between 18 months and four years old. These ex-racers are
intelligent, quiet, clean, gentle, good-natured, adaptable dogs who
adjust readily to their new home environment. They are eager to
please and respond positively to any attention. They seem grateful
for their new homes and regard their new owners with never-ending
affection. They do not require a great deal of space to run, as many
people think, but they do need exercise. Inside the house they enjoy
curling up in a corner on a soft blanket.
Greyhounds spend most of their lives in the company of other dogs,
their trainers, and handlers. Greyhounds have all the advantages of
breeding and training when it comes to being a good pet. Their
sociability generally makes them great with other pets (including
cats!). Their temperament makes them wonderful around children and
friends. Their intelligence and breed make them perfect house pets,
clean, quiet, and a loving companion. Whether you are a family
looking for a playful friend, or an individual looking for a devoted
companion, a well-mannered greyhound could be just the pet for you.
Because greyhounds have been raised in kennels, a careful
introduction into a suitable home environment is a must for
successful placements.
Before You Adopt: GPA-MoKan does require that new adopters read either Adopting
the Racing Greyhound by Cynthia Branigan or Retired Racing
Greyhounds for Dummies by Lee Livingood prior to the home visit.
If there are children 13 or younger in the home, we also require
Living With Kids and Dogs...Without Losing Your Mind by Colleen
Pelar. All can be found at Amazon.com.

his ears scratched. When he wags his tail, it spins in
circles. We do not believe that Ben is cat or small
animal safe but, we will test him very soon.

dogs ever.
Sophie is cat and small dog safe.

Annie is a 5 year old dark brindle

Shelby is a darling red fawn, 4 year
old girl. She is described as a very happy and playful
girl who loves to give kisses and get belly rubs. She

surgery, her leg is still not great and she has some trouble
using it. She will still make a great pet and, don't
let that leg fool you, she is still pretty darned fast.

ADOPTION PENDING

Sunny is a 4 year old small brindle
girl. She is a very sweet girl who is still figuring
out about life in a home. As you can see, she was far
more interested in the guy petting her than she was getting
her picture taken. Sunny is literally a lap dog so
it's a good thing she's so small. She is getting along great with her
greyhound foster brothers and sisters and loves the human
children in her foster family as well. Sunny is not cat and small dog
safe.

Vanda is a 2 year old red female with
a black mask. Vanda's personality is still developing.
She is still unsure about pretty much everything in the
house but is doing a great job of learning the ropes from
her greyhound foster brothers and sister. She is
starting to explore things on her own more and more.
She's been caught a couple of times laying on her back so we
know she's happy. She's also starting to sneakily pick
things up like clothes out of the laundry hamper. She
will kiss fingers, toes and now her foster mom's nose (not
necessarily in that order thankfully). Vanda was scared to
death of the cat she met.

Mocha is a 4 year old red female with
a black mask.
She is a happy and friendly girl who does great with
children. She is very playful and likes her toys; she also
likes to sunbathe in the yard. Mocha is a littermate to
Madison and Bear pictured above. Mocha is cat and small dog
safe.
